web & app design.

the process.

1 // who is this for?

Our time is wasted if we do anything before we take into account the user. Who is using your site? Your product? Reading your blog? We’ll begin with a deep dive into this question, creating personas, user stories, and more. Additionally, we believe it’s worthwhile to take a look at your competition. What are they doing well, and what gaps do they have that we can fill?

By the end of this phase, we have a solid sense of the problem we’re trying to solve, as well as what measurable success looks like for you and your project.

This initial research process gives us a solid foundation for the next phase of our time together.

2 // what might this look like?

Now that we have a solid sense of who we’re serving and what problem we’re solving, we can begin to dream about what your project looks like.

Our design process includes many iterations. We’ll begin with paper wireframes and information architecture—the industry term for visually minimal concepts for what your site might look like and more importantly, how your information might be organized.

As we move through the approval process for structure, we’ll build low-fidelity prototypes, which give you the opportunity to test drive the feel of navigating your site and performing key tasks.

With approval at this stage, we move forward to a high-fidelity prototype, which will look just like your real site, without the domain. (To see real-life prototypes like the ones I’m describing, check out the links below the “just for fun” section.)

3// how would this work?

Great! We know who we’re catering to, the problems we need to solve, and even the visual identity and structure. Now, we move into testing. We want to make sure that your site works!

Poorly functioning sites are frustrating. We want you and your users to have a great time visiting your site and learning about the incredible things you have to offer. This is why testing is such a vital part of the design process.

We’ll gather a handful of test users who match the personas we created in step one to test your site. We’ll capture live feedback and tweak your site accordingly.

We proceed to launch carefully and thoughtfully. Even after your launch we’re committed to supporting you along every step of your journey.

Congratulations! You have a beautiful, functional new site!

a brief case study.

Shannon ‘s practice serves mostly women and teens in Colorado desiring Christian counseling or marital/premarital counseling. When we built her brand, we landed on the key motif of the olive branch in her branding and color palette. The imagery, colors, and airy design mirror the audience Shannon serves as well as her home in Colorado.

just for fun.

(Well, not pure fun, as this was a grad school assignment.) This build for an imaginary “Doxology Collective” is a simple prototype for an app- and website-based small group curriculum I had the idea for years ago. In the brief research document, you can get a taste of my design process (which always begins with the audience) and the way we approach a web or app project.
